Panhandling sign leads to fight

DAYTON — A dispute with a panhandler ended in a physical fight in the North Main Street and West Siebenthaler Avenue area Tuesday night, according to a city police report.

Keith Lamar Murphy was arrested on an assault charge and is being held at the Montgomery County Jail.

Dayton officers were dispatched around 8:24 p.m. on Tuesday for a reported assault.

The victim told officers he was tired of Murphy panhandling, so me made a sign that said not give Murphy money because he spends it on alcohol.

The victim reported he stood next to Murphy with the sign which caused him to become upset and strike him in the head.

Two witnesses told city police they saw Murphy hit the victim.
