Greene County’s Parks and Trails Chief Ranger, Darrell Hannah, said they are issuing more citations this year than last year to people jumping off cliffs and swimming in dangerous waters.

News Center 7′s Brandon Lewis says one of the spots where people are being cited is at the Indian Mound Reserve in Cedarville.

Park rangers say it is happening at waterfalls.

They add if they catch people jumping off a cliff, they are going to cite you for your own good.

Hannah told Lewis last year they handed out 150 warnings at Indian Mound Reserve with about 10 to 12 citations.

This year, they are citing people more because he said they are not complying.

Since spring, Hannah said they have already given out approximately 30 citations.

Lewis reports the citations were mostly for swimming which is not allowed in the park.

“I don’t want a bunch of citations. I don’t want to cite people. I don’t want to take people’s money,” said Hannah. “That’s not why I’m here. I’m here to keep people safe, keep our parks safe for people to take their families and enjoy. That’s what we do.”

He also told Lewis that rescuing people is more difficult if they decided to jump or swim at Indian Mound Reserve.
