Police had to deploy tear and smoke gas to get the man out.

Butler Township police were called to a disturbance around 10:30 a.m.

Police said a man threatened management with a knife.

When police arrived, the man barricaded himself in his motel room and threatened to shoot them if they didn’t leave.

“Unfortunately, he wasn’t following directions. He appeared to be, from the description, intoxicated or on some kind of drug at the time,” Butler Township Police Chief John Porter said.

One man who was inside his motel room during the stand-off heard what was going on.

“At that point, I saw all the cop cars and was like ‘yeah we’re safe.’ I wasn’t really worried about it to be honest,” Williams said.

The standoff lasted three hours and ended with the man being carried away.

“At this time the subject is going to be looking at charges of aggravated menacing, trespassing, and inducing panic,” Porter said.
