A Dayton man has been identified as the pedestrian who was hit and killed by a vehicle on North Main Street early Friday morning.

Christopher Blocker, 53, died at Miami Valley Hospital after he was hit by a car on North Main Street and Forest Glen Avenue, according to Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger. Blocker’s cause and manner of death are still under investigation.

Police and medics were called to the intersection just after midnight after the crash was reported.

The vehicle involved did not stop after hitting Blocker. Police have identified a potential suspect vehicle, a larger Ford F-650 truck with damage on the passenger side, that is believed to have hit Blocker, Dayton police Sgt. Gordon Cairns said.

However, police are not sure the vehicle’s color or year, but know it is newer than the 2016 model year, Cairns said. Police made the determination it was a larger vehicle based on debris left behind and tire marks that went into the grass near where the victim was hit, Cairns said.

Blocker was crossing North Main Street when he was hit but he was not in a cross walk, Cairns said.

Friday’s crash is the latest in a string of fatal hit-and-run crashes in Dayton. Cairns said in the last week and a half, the department has investigated three deadly hit-skip crashes.

Anyone with information about the crash, that either witnessed it or has details that can help police, are asked to call Dayton police at 937-333-COPS and ask for the traffic services division or Miami Valley Crime Stoppers at 937-222-STOP.

We’ll update this story as we learn more.
