UPDATE: 1 in custody after chase starts in Lima, ends with crash in Shelby County

SHELBY COUNTY — A chase that started in Lima ended in Shelby County with a crash and one person in custody Monday night.

At around 7:45 p.m., the Lima Police Department was investigating an incident that resulted in a chase with a 2021 Land Rover Range Rover driven by Joseph Landers of Cincinnati, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The chase was eventually canceled by Lima officers in the area of state Route 65 to Interstate 75 south.

Ten minutes later a trooper with the Wapakoneta post of OSP saw Landers’ car and attempted to stop it. Landers did not stop and another chase ensued.

Stop sticks were deployed multiple times but failed to stop Landers.

Landers attempted to avoid stop sticks near the 92-mile marker on I-75 southbound when he lost control, traveling off the left side of the roadway and striking the median.

He refused verbal commands by troopers to exit his car, but eventually exited his car running southbound before being taken into custody.

Laners was cited for failing to control his car, according to OSP.

He was taken to Lima Police Department. Information about the charges he faces in Lima was not available.
