Person pulled from river during water rescue in Shelby County

SHELBY COUNTY — A person was rescued from a river in Shelby County, Wednesday afternoon, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 12:36 p.m. crews were called out to the 17300 block of State Route 47 on reports of a person and dogs in a river.

The sheriff’s office confirmed that Andrew Holthaus, 47, was removed from the water and checked by the rescue workers. It was determined he did not need to be taken to a hospital.

The sheriff’s office says that Holthaus’ dogs had gone into the partially frozen river, and Holthaus went onto the ice to rescue his dogs and fell in himself.

The dogs were also removed from the water, according to the sheriff’s office.
