Person in critical condition after being trapped inside burning Dayton house

DAYTON — A person was trapped then rescued from a Dayton house fire Tuesday morning.

Dayton fire were dispatched to the intersection of Ethel Avenue and Jerome Avenue at 6:42 a.m. on reports of a residential fire, Montgomery County Regional Dispatch said.

As crews were responding, dispatch informed firefighters that a person was trapped inside the burning building.

When emergency responders arrived at the intersection, they found that a split-level house on the 2500 block of Jerome Avenue was showing “heavy fire conditions,” a spokesperson for the Dayton Fire Department stated. Firefighters then confirmed that a person was trapped on the second floor, prompting a rescue team to extricate the person.

Once the person was rescued, medics, who responded to the scene, treated the patient, then transported the person to Miami Valley Hospital, dispatch stated. The patient required Advanced Life Support (ALS) care due to the fire.

The patient was in critical condition when being transported to the hospital, the spokesperson stated.

There were no other reported injuries.

The home sustained “significant fire and smoke damage throughout,” the spokesperson continued. A formal damage estimate is pending at this time.

Dayton fire led the efforts into extinguishing the fire and investigating the incident.
