DAYTON — A resident struck a man several times with a pipe after that man tried to break into his home on Riverside Drive Saturday night, according to a Dayton police report.

“I come in the kitchen and I see a guy in my window…like half way through,” the resident, who asked not to be identified, told News Center 7’s Sean Cudahy. “So, I grabbed this pipe right here and hit him a couple times with it.”

Officers responded to the home in the 1700 block of Riverside around 11 p.m. after the resident reported the incident.

The resident told police he knew the suspect and that the suspect knows his mother, according to the report.

The resident’s mother told police the suspect is a “guy from the neighborhood she has been giving ‘odd jobs’ to help him out,” the report read.

“I ain’t no saint, but that’s bad when somebody helps you and you’ve got to steal from them,” the resident said.

Police are still working to locate the suspect, but the resident warned the suspect not to try breaking in again.

“Don’t come back. It’s going to be worse,” he said.
