Piqua police find meth, arrest woman during drug trafficking investigation

PIQUA — A 52-year-old woman is in custody after Piqua police searched a South Roosevelt Avenue home Tuesday as part of a drug trafficking investigation.

Melissa L. Olds was charged with trafficking drugs for having 18 grams of methamphetamine, according to a press release.

The charge is a first-degree felony due to the amount of drugs and the home’s vicinity to a school.

Olds was arraigned Wednesday morning. Bond was set at $25,000.

“We have seen a tremendous increase in meth use and trafficking in Piqua so far this year,” said Chief of Police Bruce Jamison. “We want to make it clear that substituting meth use for heroin use is not an acceptable resolution to individual drug issues. We offer any assistance we can to removing barriers people face in their recovery. Shutting down the dealers is one of the tactics we employ.”

Piqua police searched the home in the 200 block of South Roosevelt Avenue around 9 a.m. Tuesday with assistance from Sidney police.

Several suspicious items were recovered during the search, according to the release, and the investigation is on-going.

Anyone needing help with addiction should contact any officer in Piqua’s HEART (Heroin Education and Recovery Team) program. The program is available for any addiction, not just heroin.

Piqua police also accept anonymous tips through the Submit-A-Tip program.
