PIQUA — A trooper with the Ohio Highway Patrol Piqua Post in garnering national attention after he took time to pray with a man whose sister was killed in a crash Sunday morning.
Mark Ross was the passenger in a vehicle on northbound I-75 just south of Piqua, when troopers had pulled the vehicle he was in over for speeding, according to Lt. Joseph Gebhart.
Ross posted about his experience with Robison on his Facebook page and praised the trooper for his interaction during the traffic stop.
Ross had a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest out of Wayne County, Michigan, however that jurisdiction did not want to extradite Ross after troopers contacted their officers.
Ross told troopers he was on his way to Michigan to be with his family after his sister’s tragic death in a crash.
Gebhart said Sgt. David Robison took the time to pray with Ross for both him and his family and offered to drive him further north if someone could meet troopers to pick Ross up. Instead, Ross decided to allow troopers to drop him off at the Miami County Jail, where friends or family picked him up to take him to Michigan, Gebhart said.
The driver of the vehicle Ross was in was arrested for speeding, possession of marijuana and driving under suspension and he remains in the Miami County Jail.
