DAYTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT — A SkyWest flight from Charleston was diverted to the Dayton International Airport Monday night, a spokesperson with the airport confirmed.

Rescue and firefighter personnel were called to the airport around 7:50 p.m.

The spokesperson said the pilot declared an “alert 2″ emergency due to smoke in the cockpit.

The plane landed on a Dayton International Airport runway safely.

52 passengers were deplaned into one of the terminals, according to the spokesperson.

The flight’s final destination was Chicago, Illinois.

SkyWest Airlines provided the following statement to News Center 7.

SkyWest Flight 4644, operating as United Express from Charleston, West Virginia to Chicago, diverted to Dayton, Ohio due to a mechanical indication. The flight landed safely and we are working to help customers resume their travels as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience.
