Planet Fitness to require masks while working out Aug. 1

MIAMI VALLEY — Planet Fitness, which has several Dayton area locations, will begin requiring masks at all times inside its clubs beginning later this week.

That requirement also includes wearing masks while working out.

“This includes upon entering and exiting the facility, and at all times while in the facility except when individuals are behind a private enclosure (shower, changing room, tanning room, etc.) or drinking,” said Becky Zirlen, spokeswoman for Planet Fitness.

Planet Fitness has Dayton area locations in Huber Heights, Centerville, Sugarcreek Twp., Riverside, Englewood, Middletown, Springfield and Piqua.

The policy change was announced to members in Sugarcreek Twp. on Facebook this morning and was met with mixed responses from members.

Planet Fitness said the policy change is being made as part of “the enhanced safety of our members, guests and team members.”

“This added safety precaution also helps us to remain open to serve you and keep you healthy and active,” a post on the gym’s website read.

If you have a medical exception that prohibits you from wearing a mask or you prefer not to wear one, you are asked to reach out to your local club.

“We are happy to freeze your membership until such time when we are no longer requiring masks in our clubs at all times,” Planet Fitness said.
