Police: 3 in custody after shooting, foot chase near UD campus

DAYTON — Three people are in custody after a shooting incident, crash and foot chase near the University of Dayton’s campus Friday afternoon, police said.

Two people were taken into custody after they ran from police following a crash involving a white Chevrolet Equinox, which was believed to be connected to a recent robbery at Elsa’s Mexican Restaurant on Linden Avenue.

The crash was in the 100 block of Rogge Street around 1:10 p.m.

University officials sounded emergency sirens on campus and alerted campus to the police situation within minutes of the crash being reported.

A third person was arrested after a resident spotted him running through a yard near Clover and Dover streets about two hours later. The resident told News Center 7 he grabbed the third suspect until police arrived.

"I was sitting on my porch and noticed police officers were doing their rounds and I noticed something was wrong,” said Douglas Solloway.  "I went ahead and grabbed him, because there were children outside."

The names of the people taken into custody were not immediately released.
