The woman, in the call to 9-1-1, said she takes full responsibility for shooting the man she said has her money and other items. She said she was protecting herself and her children.

She told the emergency dispatcher she took the man’s handgun, fired a warning shot at him, then shot him when they were outside her apartment building in the 1200 block of Huffman Avenue. He re-entered the apartment and her daughter called 9-1-1.

The daughter told the emergency dispatcher the man was hitting her mother and was trying to shoot her mother. The woman took the phone from her daughter and related what happened.

“I asked him to leave,” she said to the emergency dispatcher. “He will not put his hands on me or my children. He’s still in my house. I tried to do this nicely.”

When the dispatcher asked the woman whether she shot the man, the woman said, “Yes ma’am, I did.... He needs an ambulance.”

Dayton police were questioning the woman at the scene, but have said nothing publicly about the investigation.
