Police arrest 3 in connection to August shooting at Troy park

TROY — Three people have been arrested in connection to a shooting at a public park in Miami County earlier this year.

The shooting happened at Troy Community Park on Aug. 24.

News Center 7 previously reported that just minutes after receiving reports of the shooting, dispatchers received reports that a 29-year-old man was dropped off at Kettering Health Troy Hospital. The man was shot in the chest.

On Wednesday, it was announced that Courtney McCarel-Kraska, 36; Todd Norris, 26; and Derrick Peeples, 27, were arrested in connection to the shooting. All three have been charged with attempted aggravated murder, conspiracy and felonious assault. McCarel-Kraska was also charged with tampering with evidence, according to a release.

Peeples was identified as the suspected shooter, who was caught shooting the victim in a social media video obtained by police.

“The shooting is believed to be drug related and preplanned to occur in the Park involving known associates,” Captain Jeff Kunkleman said in a release.

Piqua Police, the Adult Parole Authority and the US Marshal Service assisted in the arrests.
