Trotwood officer injured, driver arrested after crash

TROTWOOD — One person is in custody and an officer is in the hospital after a crash in Trotwood Thursday night.

Around 7 p.m. Ohio State Highway Patrol was called to a crash involving a Trotwood officer on Little Richmond Road just east of Union Road, according to OSP Sgt. Bradley Hess.

The Trotwood cruiser was blocking traffic for a previous crash in the area when they were struck by an SUV, Hess said.

The female officer was taken to Miami Valley Hospital in an unknown condition. Hess said impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash.

The SUV driver was arrested and will also be cited for the crash. Benjamin Howard was home when the crash happened from his kitchen window.

“I watched the car pretty much just drive straight into the cruiser, no brake lights or nothing,” Howard said.

He said the crash was “extremely loud” and that his fiancé heard it from the bathroom and thought something had happened in the home.

Crashes on this road are not uncommon, Howard said.

“I wish people would just start driving a little more safely,” he said.

The crash remains under investigation by Ohio State Highway Patrol. News Center 7 will continue updating this story.
