Troy is the only police department in Miami County that works eight-and-a-half-hour shifts with six days on and three days off.
But that soon will change.
“Essentially it will be a shift that comes in at 6 a.m., works till 6 p.m. and then the next shift is 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.,” Capt. Zac Mumford with Troy police said.
It’s called a two-two-three schedule.

“This one will be more along the lines of two on two off. Three on, two off. So you get every other weekend off,” Mumford said.
Mumford said it’s already boosted morale around the department.
It decreases the shift changes per day from three to two which Mumford said will help police better serve the community.
“With more officers on the street, if it’s more a priority type call, we should have an officer hopefully a little closer by,” Mumford said.
He added it also benefits officers while on duty.
“You come back, your batteries are charged and you don’t have a six-day workweek in front of you,” Mumford said.
The department will start this schedule in January and use 2025 as a trial run to see if they want to adopt it permanently.
