Man found shot outside Springfield Kroger identified

Update@6:31 p.m. (Jan. 29):

The victim in the shooting has been identified as Eric M. Webster, 21, of the 20 block of west Euclid Avenue in Springfield.

He was shot in the lower jaw and chin area, according to a police report. Officers also found a baggie of suspected illegal drugs on the victim, the report said.

Miami Valley Hospital officials acknowledged Monday evening that Webster is a patient, but they could not release any information about his condition.

UPDATE @ 11:55 p.m.

Police found a man down in the parking lot at Kroger on South Limestone Street around 9:30 p.m. Friday.

“Apparently it was some kind of disturbance,” Springfield police Chief Lee Graf said.

He urged other customers in the parking lot at the supermarket, 1822 S. Limestone St., around the time of the shooting to contact police with information.

The victim was flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton with injuries described as severe.

On Saturday morning, police were waiting for a representative from the post office to help them retrieve rounds in a mailbox at the scene, according to an officer in charge.

UPDATE @ 4:15 a.m. (Jan. 27):

Detectives are investigating after police found a man shot outside the Kroger on South Limestone Street in Springfield Friday.

According to Sgt. Michael Curtis, the man was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center but was most likely transferred to Miami Valley Hospital by Careflight. The victim’s injuries are reported to be severe, according to Curtis.

No one has been arrested and there are no reported suspects at this time.

INITIAL REPORT:

Police responding to hearing gunshots at the Kroger on South Limestone Street in Springfield found a man down in the parking lot.

That person has been taken to a hospital, but police are trying to determine whether the person was wounded by gunfire or injured in some other manner, Springfield police Sgt. Williams said.

Officers were in the area at the time of the incident, reported just after 9:30 p.m., close enough to hear gunshots, he said. They arrived at the parking lot of the supermarket, 1822 S. Limestone St., to find the man down on the ground.

There are investigators on scene as police work to determine what led to the shots fired call and the man found in the lot.
