HUBER HEIGHTS — A shooting involving a 15-year-old victim is no longer considered random and prosecutors have charged the suspected shooter, said Sgt. Brian Carr with Huber Heights Police.

Timothy W. Jones III, 18, is charged with reckless assault, tampering with evidence and two weapons charges. He’s currently being held in the Montgomery County Jail.

Police responded to the 8200 block of Mount Carmel Street around 7:45 p.m. on Sunday after the shooting happened.

“A boy in my parking lot got shot,” a 911 caller said. ‘They’ve been out here all-day playing basketball.”

Body camera footage obtained by News Center 7 through a public records request showed police pulling up to the apartment complex. In the video, the 15-year-old was lying on the ground near a vehicle with several other teenagers around him.

The 911 caller is seen trying to help the teen who was shot, the video showed.

Huber Heights police said the boy was not sure who shot him and didn’t see anything before being hit by the bullet.

The male juvenile had a gunshot wound to his hip. He was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The teen is expected to survive his injuries.
