UPDATE @ 1:03 a.m. (April 3): A male resident believed to be in his 30s has been taken to a hospital after he was shot in what police are investigating as a home invasion, Dayton Sgt. Danielle Cash said.

Two assailants tried to push their way into the home, in the 2800 block of Dwight Avenue, and one of them fired a shot through the front door when the resident resisted, Cash said.

The resident was hit in the foot and likely will lose some toes.

Cash said police have no suspect description because the incident happened so quickly, the victim did not get a look at his attackers.

Police have blocked traffic to the street as they continue their investigation. A K-9 unit has been brought in to search for evidence.
