Police issue safety advisory to University of Dayton students after reported home burglaries

DAYTON — Two reported burglaries that occurred on Sept. 15 in the South Student Neighborhood has prompted the University of Dayton police to issue a safety advisory for the campus community, according to an email sent out late Saturday.

The burglaries were reported at two separate homes on Evanston Avenue, with residents reporting to UD Public Safety officials that items were taken from their homes.

The first burglary was reported at approximately 12:43 a.m., in which a female resident said that she awakened to see an unknown male standing in her bedroom doorway. When the male suspect saw her, he ran downstairs and left the residence.

Residents reported that several items were missing from the home, including Macbooks and wallets, per the email.

While the first incident was being investigated, another resident reported to police that sometime overnight, an unknown person entered their Evanston Avenue home through an unlocked first floor window. The alleged burglar removed a MacBook Pro and left through the back door.

There were no further descriptions of the suspects.

University of Dayton police are continuing to investigate both incidents.
