Police issue warning for car warm-up thefts

BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek Police Department is warning residents not to leave their cars running unattended.

News Center 7′s Malik Patterson spoke with police about how you can leave your car while it’s warming up safely.

Police say that leaving your car running unattended on a road can get you a ticket, but in your own driveway or garage, that’s up to you.

For people with driveways and garages, leaving your car running won’t get you ticketed, but it could invite criminals.

Beavercreek police say you should always lock your car when warming it up, especially if it’s left unattended.

Police recommend using a spare key to start, if you don’t have keyless, and keep your normal key with you while the car is locked.

They also say you should never keep anything valuable in your car.

Staying aware of your surroundings, police say, and look out for anyone suspicious.
