Police K-9 retires after nearly 9 years of service

CELINA — The Celina Police Department announced the retirement of one of their K-9 officers.

K-9 Peng was officially retired on Dec. 30, 2024 after nearly 9 years of service, according to a Facebook post from the department.

Peng was purchased by the department in 2016 with a donation from Tom & Betty Leininger and Craig & Kathryn Kennedy, according to the post.

“Over the years Peng proved to be a vital member of the department in combating narcotics and tracking suspects, in the city and surrounding area,” the post read.

Peng will live with his handler Sgt. Bartlett and his family during his retirement.
