Officers and medics were called to the area of North 23rd Street near Glen Miller Park around 10:40 a.m. Sunday after the accident was reported.

James Wallace, 46, of Richmond, was found injured after he was hit by a train, police said in a media release Tuesday. Wallace was taken to Reid Health in Richmond where he later died from his injuries.

The preliminary police investigation found Wallace had fallen asleep on the tracks and wasn’t able to make it off the tracks before the train came through and hit him, police said.

Additional details were not released.
