Victim in deadly Springfield shooting identified

SPRINGFIELD — UPDATE @ 10:55 a.m.

The victim in Monday’s deadly shooting has been identified as 19-year-old Cobey Etherington.

According to a Springfield Police report, Etherington was in the passenger seat of a car on W. Mulberry Street when he was shot.

Springfield police said a man who died in a Springfield shooting early Monday morning was shot and killed while he was in his car.

UPDATE @6:25 a.m.

Springfield police are investigating a fatal shooting on South Yellow Springs Street.

The coroner is on scene.

Police have a crime scene taped off on South Yellow Springs Street in Springfield.

The scene is reportedly between Mulberry and Jefferson streets. Authorities declined to comment on the nature of the investigation.

A  man who called our newsroom said he sees a white sedan in the middle of the roadway.
