According to the department, victims will receive items in the mail that they didn’t order.

These items include a QR code. It asks the victim to scan it to find out who sent the package.

Once the code is scanned, scammers can get personal information off the victim’s phone, according to the department.

There have been no reports of this happening in Dayton, but it has been reported in other states.

“Please always be aware and avoid scanning unknown QR codes like ones included in these types of packages,” the department said.
