Prospect of replacing Food for Less, destroyed by fire, is uncertain

Whether a new Food for Less will replace the store destroyed by fire a week ago is not certain.

What is certain is that there is less foot traffic in the east Dayton neighborhood where the grocery store was a community gathering place, much more than just a place to go to stock the home pantry.

Fire destroyed the store, 3129 E. Third St., the night of Nov. 9. Dayton Fire Chief Jeffrey Payne has said there is no reason to suspect anything suspicious about the fire.

"I think everybody in this neighborhood misses them big time," Gail Kincer told News Center 7's James Buechele on Thursday night.

Another consequence of the fire is that the closest grocery store is more than a mile away.

Hear about that and more from Kincer in the News Center 7 report that accompanies this report.
