James E. Wright, 51, was arrested on Ohio 202 and booked into the Montgomery County Jail, online jail records show.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Dayton Post, troopers initiated a traffic stop on northbound Interstate 75 near Northwoods Boulevard, but that Wright, driving a U-Haul truck, did not pull over.
“The U-Haul truck was reported stolen through Huber Heights,”, OSP Sgt. Matt Robinson said.
A pursuit ensued from I-75 to Ohio 571 in Tipp City, and continued onto Ohio 202 and I-70, before the truck exited onto Ohio 202 again and finally came to a stop around 1:15 a.m. in the Lowe’s parking lot on Old Troy Pike in Huber Heights.
Tire-deflation devices were used in effort to stop the truck, but he kept going despite the tires being affected.
Troopers say the truck was not speeding during the pursuit.
“Speeds were slower than interstate speeds,” Robinson said.
Law enforcement blocked off various intersections, including the off ramp from I-70 to Ohio 202 while the pursuit was in progress.
Wright attempted to bail on foot when he stopped in the Lowe’s parking lot, but was hit with a Taser and caught, authorities say.
He was taken to an area hospital for precautionary measures and taken to jail afterwards.
Wright was booked for failure to comply and receiving stolen property, though he hasn’t been formally charged, the jail site indicates.
Huber Heights police assisted with the incident.
