UPDATE @ 7:55 a.m. (July 4):
Two people have been taken into custody and one remains on the run after a pursuit ended in a crash in Piqua Wednesday morning.
A state trooper noticed the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Interstate 75 north near the Northwoods Boulevard exit in Vandalia and attempted to make a traffic stop, according to Lt. Mark Nichols of the Dayton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
After the driver didn’t pull over, troopers started a pursuit where speeds reached between 85 and 105 mph, Nichols said.
The car exited the highway at the County Road 25A exit north of Troy, and continued north into Piqua. Troopers discontinued their pursuit once the vehicle exited the highway, Nichols said.
Piqua police found the vehicle and followed it until it crashed into a fire hydrant on North Main Street in front of a Shell gas station. The three occupants inside the vehicle fled the scene after the crash, Nichols said.
Two people, who troopers did not identify, were apprehended. The third occupant has not been located, Nichols said.
