News Center 7′s Mason Fletcher spoke with Mandi Dillon from ODOT about what drivers can expect.
“Right now we are making sure that everything is running correctly and that everything is loaded with salt and ready to go,” Dillon said.
As the cold moves in, the ODOT trucks load up and move out. The trucks are prepped with about seven tons of salt, ready to treat the roads. The department has scheduled the salt trucks to begin at midnight tonight, into Friday morning.
“We are really trying to hit bridges, ramps, overpasses,” Dillon said. “A lot of times those will freeze first because they have air flowing underneath them.”
John Osweiler, a Dayton resident, says he worries more about other drivers than the road conditions.
“A lot of them are really impatient and they’re just driving like it’s not even raining, especially over here on the interstate,” Osweiler said.
Dillon has some recommendations that could help drivers stay safe.
“Make sure that you are leaving a little extra time to get to your destination. Also, when you see our plows out on the road, give them some space,” Dillon said.
