DAYTON — A longtime Dayton police officer who retired just last week died over the weekend after a brief cancer battle, according to a department spokesperson.

Officer Mike Saylors, 52, died Sunday after just retiring from the force Friday, the spokesperson said in a social media message.
Saylors was a 22-year veteran of the department and was a member of the department’s Community Problem Response Team, assigned to the city’s east side.
Additional details were not released.
