Recreation centers to operate as warming centers in Dayton

DAYTON — The City of Dayton will operate its three recreation centers as warming centers after the recent snow accumulation and ahead of the cold temperatures forecasted this week.

The three centers are scheduled to operate from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The coldest temperatures are currently forecasted for Tuesday, Jan. 14, with temperatures in the single digits and wind chill values below zero.

Wednesday is also expected to have single-digit temperatures.

The warming centers locations are as follows:

  • Greater Dayton Recreation Center – 2021 W. Third St.
  • Lohrey Recreation Center – 2366 Glenarm Ave.
  • Northwest Recreation Center – 1600 Princeton Dr.

For shelter needs after hours the following St. Vincent DePaul shelter facilities will be available:

  • Women and Families – 120 W. Apple St.
  • Men – 1921 S. Gettysburg Ave.

“Residents are also encouraged to check on their neighbors for any assistance they may need and to remember the shelter needs of pets,” the city said in a release.
