“Fortunately, they were awake at the time of the fire. The detectors did work and did do their job,” said Huber Heights Fire Department Battalion Chief Greg Baumle.
Firefighters were dispatched to the home in the 5800 block of Brandt Pike where they noticed smoke coming from the garage just after 1 a.m.
Crews quickly knocked the fire down, said Baumle.
The teen boy and girl who were home were not injured, but the family was displaced, Baumle said. Red Cross will assist the family.
Firefighters are currently investigating the cause of the fire, and an estimate of damages is unknown at this time, said Baumle.
