Red Cross helping 22 people after Dayton apartment fire

DAYTON — Nearly two-dozen people are looking for a place to stay Tuesday morning after an apartment fire in Dayton.

Just before 2:30 a.m., Dayton firefighters responded to the corner of Wabash Avenue and West Norman Avenue.

The apartment was evacuated while crews worked on putting out the flames.

The American Red Cross is helping displaced families — 22 people total, including 9 minors, from eight units

Those impacted have been given client assistance cards that they can use to meet their immediate needs, according the American Red Cross spokesperson Marita Salkowski. The Red Cross also provided disaster health and disaster mental health, where some medications lost in the fire were able to be replaced.

We are working to learn more about how the fire started.
