Renovated Kings Island coaster to beat its own record

MASON — King Island’s “The Beast” will break its own record this year.

The coaster has held the title of “World’s Longest Wooden Roller Coaster” since it opened in 1979.

Due to offseason track work and reprofiling of The Beast’s first drop, the coaster will extend its track length by two feet — breaking it’s own record.

Crews have been working since November to refurbish 2,000 feet of the coaster’s track, according to a release.

The coaster’s first drop has been changed from 45 degrees to 53 degrees so that it can come into the tunnel lower and create a smoother transition to the second drop, the amusement park said.

The project is expected to be completed by May.
