Trevone Turner of Dayton died Sunday from his injuries at Grandview Medical Center, two days after he was shot, Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger said.

Turner died from a gunshot wound to the head and his death was ruled a homicide, Harshbarger said.

Previously, investigators said the person shot, Turner, was not the intended target of a “targeted attack” at a home in the 200 block of Fer Don Road.

Deputies first said last week multiple people approached the Harrison Twp. house to commit a targeted attack, however the motive of the attack, like a robbery, was still being investigated.

During the attempted attack, at least 20 shots were fired by multiple weapons.

Deputies said they were still investigating if Turner was hit by gunfire returned by the intended target of the attack inside the house, or if he was hit by gunfire by another suspect in the attack.

We’ll continue to update this story as we learn more.

The victim, whose name was not released, was not the intended target of the attack, Maj. Matt Haines of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office told News Center 7. Deputies are still working to investigate if the shooting victim was shot by the person who was the intended target of the attack who returned fire, or if another suspect in the attack shot him, Haines said.

Deputies said several people approached a house in the 200 block of Fer Don Road around 2:10 a.m. Friday to commit a targeted attack, Haines said. Deputies said the motive of the attack, such as robbing the intended target, was still being investigated.

Over 20 shots were fired by more than one type of weapon, striking the victim as well as five homes and at least two vehicles in the neighborhood, Haines said.

A person who is believed to be the intended target of the attack was able to flee the scene in a vehicle, but was stopped by another police agency. That person, who was not identified, has not been arrested and is not facing any charges at this time, Haines said.

Deputies obtained a search warrant and conducted a search at the house where the intended target of the attack was. Details about what was recovered during the search were not released.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
