No injuries, product losses in Springfield Twp. tanker truck fire

SPRINGFIELD TWP. — UPDATE @ 8:34 p.m.:

Authorities say the Duncan Oil Company fire incident totaling two tanker trucks tonight could have been much worse.

Springfield Twp. Fire Chief David Nangle confirmed all four trucks affected by the fire were empty, and parked far away from the building. No injuries or product losses occurred.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and a total cost of damages will not be released until the company’s owner is notified, Nangle said.

UPDATE @ 7:50 p.m.:

Fire totals two tanker trucks and damages two others tonight at the Duncan Oil Company, with losses estimated in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, fire officials said.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is on scene.

The fire was burning hot and heavy, with smoke seen across Clark County when fire crews arrived sometime around 7 p.m. It was knocked down quickly.

The fire chief said luckily, the trucks were outside and away from the building.

The cause remains under investigation.

FIRST REPORT:

Crews were called to a report of an oil tanker on fire, with smoke seen from Interstate 70 and the Clark County fairgrounds.

The fire was reported at the Duncan Oil Company, 2850 E. Leffel Lane, just south of Springfield city limits.

According to initial reports, the fire spread to other vehicles.
