Police: Property owner shoots at suspected illegal dumpers; 2 men arrested

UPDATE @ 10:45 a.m.:

Two men were arrested after police were called to a reported shooting on Hickorydale Avenue late Monday night, according to a Dayton police incident report.

Jeffery C. Shehee, 60, and Dwayne Smith, 52, were arrested and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on preliminary charges of felonious assault, investigators said in the report.

Police previously said a property owner fired shots at people who were believed to be illegally dumping items on their property.

Investigators said one person did suffer non-life threatening injuries in the incident. The police report lists the complainant as a man who lived at the address where the shooting happened. It was not indicated if he was facing any charges in the incident.

A property owner on Hickorydale Avenue in Dayton fired shots at people he believed were illegally dumping items on the owner’s property, according to police.

Police were called to the 1700 block of Hickorydale Avenue just before midnight after dispatchers received calls of a shooting in the area, initial reports indicate.

One person suffered non-life threatening injuries in the incident, investigators said. Officers said all suspects were taken into custody however it wasn’t known how many were arrested or what charges they are facing.

It was not known if the alleged shooter was facing any charges.

Neighbors told our crew on the scene illegal dumping in common in the area.
