Officers responded to the home in the 4200 block of Crest Drive, north of Free Pike, around 6 a.m. after receiving reports of shots fired in the area, investigators said.

At least 45 shots were fired from a car, leaving behind dozens of shell casings in the street, Dayton police Sgt. Creigee S. Coleman said.

The people inside the house were not hurt, police said.

Police are not sure why the house was targeted.

Detectives are working to obtain any surveillance footage from nearby homes that might have captured the vehicle.
