Man, woman in custody after hiding in sewer pipes during Dayton manhunt

DAYTON — Two people are in custody after an hours-long investigation near the Stillwater River in Dayton.

Around 11 a.m. Sheriff’s deputies attempted to make a traffic stop in the area of E. Siebenthaler Ave. and Deweese Pkwy., during which two people ran from the car and prompted a foot chase, Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck said.

“By the time we got officers and deputies here, it was determined that they probably had entered the sewer pipes in this area,” Streck said.

The man and woman, both wanted on felony warrants, entered and crossed the Stillwater River during the chase before getting into a sewer pipe.

Streck said that both suspects made statements about not wanting to go back to prison and at least one was armed.
