SUV crashes into Tipp City church serving as polling location for Election Day

TIPP CITY — An SUV crashed into part of the St. John the Baptist Church in Tipp City Tuesday morning as voting was taking place at the polling location, according to police.

Crews were dispatched to the church on South Hyatt Street around 9 a.m. after the crash was reported.

The driver, only identified as a woman, mistakenly hit the gas pedal instead of the brake while trying to park the SUV, police said.

Medics were called to check on the woman however she was not injured, according to investigators. She later went inside the building and voted, police said.

The crash disrupted, but didn’t stop voting inside, according to investigators.

The building was deemed structurally sound and voting will continue at the church.
