A grandmother is reportedly is in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital after Dayton crews rescued her from her burning home on Palmerston Avenue Monday afternoon.

Fire crews responded to the house in the 3200 block around 3:45 p.m., per initial reports.
The woman’s grandchild may have played a critical role in the rescue because he was seen running in the street screaming to anyone who could hear him that his grandmother was in the burning house.
Dayton Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Lykins said crews don’t know how long the woman had been in the house when the fire erupted and they are working to determine where she was in the house. Her name was not immediately released.

A neighborhood resident called 9-1-1 when he saw a child, later determined to be the grandchild, screaming for help.
“It’s house on fire and this little boy out here in the street crying, saying his grandma [is] in there,” the caller told the emergency operator-dispatcher.
“The fire is blazing up. It’s coming through the top! It’s coming through the ceiling!
Fire investigators say they have work to do for the final ruling, but after their preliminary work they believe the fire was accidental and began in a child’s bedroom.
Palmerston Avenue was shut down at Neosha and Nancy avenues, and Highview Hills Road while crews handled the blaze.
The house is still standing, but close to a total loss.
Ironically, the house was hit by a pickup truck early on the morning of May 4.
