As reported on News Center 7 at 6:00, the crews in the City of Springfield have been working tirelessly to get the roads clear.

Zane Severt was one of the several snowplow drivers working to clear Springfield streets Monday morning.

He had some serious horsepower behind the blade he was pushing to move snow.

News Center 7′s John Bedell rode around in the snowplow with Severt.

“Right now, we’re we’re very pleased with the condition of the main roads,” City of Springfield Service Director Chris Moore said.

According to Moore, crews always start with the main roads, and then work their way to what they call secondary streets.

“Which would be streets to get people out of neighborhoods to those main roads, ones that maybe by a school that’s on a side street,” Moore said.

News Center 7 asked Moore when people in neighborhoods would see the plows.

“Most around sundown, unless the snow keeps falling. We have to go back to the main roads and we plan to have crews in overnight working throughout the neighborhoods,” Moore said.

Moore said around 30 trucks will be out until sundown, and then 21 other trucks will come out and start clearing the roads overnight.

News Center 7 also spoke with the City of Centerville Public Works Director Patrick Turnbull about their efforts to clear the roads.

“We want to get the roads in a great place so that when everything turns to a block of ice, that’s all out of the roadway,” Turnbull said.

Turnbull said the drivers in Centerville clear main roads and neighborhood roads at the same time.

Sometimes they’ll team up in a three-truck convoy with a police escort.

“Like when school buses are out, they’ve got their lights on, you’re trying to keep your distance, you’re trying to keep everybody safe. Same with snow plow drivers, right, they’re big trucks, keep your distance and let our drivers do their work,” Turnbull said.
