Police responded to the shooting after getting about a half-dozen calls reporting shots being fired around 2:45 a.m.

“There’s a shooting right here in front of my apartment,” one caller said.

Another callers said they heard at least six gunshots.

“It’s right outside my window,” the caller said. “I heard cars screeching off.”

The women who died were Taprice Goodwin, 27, and Aria Middlebrook, 27, both of Dayton, Montgomery County Coroner Kent Harshbarger said.

Police said they are still trying to determine whether the two women knew the person who shot them. A police report shows officers seized two guns as part of their investigation, however how those guns are connected to the shooting was not immediately known.

Investigators said the shooting does not appear to be a random shooting.

Anyone with information on a potential shooter in the case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 937-222-STOP.
