Runway Fest marks airport’s 60th anniversary

Fireworks tonight will close out the fourth-annual Runway Fest, a free event marking the 60th anniversary of Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport.

Runway Fest features aircraft displays, airplane rides, a hot air balloon launch, live performances by classic rock trio Rock-O-Sonics, inflatables for the kids, roving entertainers, food trucks and more.

A Rozzi Fireworks display will bring down the curtain beginning at 9:30 p.m.

“Runway Fest is quickly becoming one of the Dayton region’s favorite summer events,” said Terry Slaybaugh, City of Dayton director of aviation. “It’s an opportunity for us to work together and give back to the community, while showcasing a true regional asset for residents and businesses.”

Visitors may bring lawn chairs or blankets, but coolers, pets, alcoholic beverages or outside food and beverages are not permitted. Firearms and weapons are not permitted on airport property.

For safety purposes, it is suggested that visitors park at the airport and not walk across busy area roads.

Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport, a general aviation facility, is owned and operated by the City of Dayton. The city’s Department of Aviation, Miami Twp., Commander Aero, and ASI organized the event.

Sponsors include Watkins Heating & Cooling, Kelchner, Inc., The Connor Group, Brixey & Meyer, Merrill Lynch, Ullman Schutte Construction, Aviation Sales, and Williams Aviation Group.
