CLARK COUNTY — The family of a Springfield High School senior killed in a wreck last year is finding a way to heal following her death, while honoring her life.
The family of Destiny Wells was at Central State University Wednesday to present thousands of dollars in scholarships in her name.
Wells, 17, died after being ejected from a vehicle during a single-vehicle crash in August 2020.

Her grandmother, Vickie Arnold, told News Center 7′s Candace Price that Wells was her best friend.
Arnold said her granddaughter had a big heart and love for others, characteristics the family wanted to honor through the scholarship.
“It allows us to show love. It allows us to show support,” Arnold said. “And it allows us to give to others, just like she would have done.”
Two students, Izell “Cage” Sanders and Jarren Morrow, awarded the Destiny Wells Scholarship and will receive $500 for the next five years.
Both students share connections to wells. Sanders, a CSU junior, shares the same jersey number, 21, as Wells.
“I can say I wish I would have met her,” Sanders said. “The jersey number connected us.”

As for Morrow, also a CSU junior, he and Wells have the same birthday, Feb. 26.
“[The scholarship] being something so personal to this family, them having a selection process of who gets the scholarship and it means a lot to me,” Morrow said.
Arnold told News Center 7 that Wells, a basketball stand out, has three college offers before her death and was planning to study early childhood education.
As for the scholarship, while the family gave away two scholarships this year, they plan to give away one going forward.
