U.S. 68 South reopens; semi crash that spills 30K pounds of wood chips is cleared

UPDATE @ 11:10 p.m.: U.S. 68 South is cleared and reopened for traffic.

UPDATE @ 5:30 p.m.:

Speed is the likely cause of the semitrailer crash that spilled the wood chips and the driver suffered facial scratches but is otherwise OK, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers said.

The left lane on U.S. 68 South likely will be closed the rest of tonight. The right lane could reopen within the hour, troopers with the Springfield post said.

INITIAL REPORT

The southbound lanes of U.S. 68 in Clark County are shut down near I-70 after a semi hauling 30,000 pounds of wood chips overturned.

The crash was reported on the Interstate 70 West ramp to U.S. 68 south in Springfield Twp. around 3:20 p.m.

Investigators said the driver was exiting from I-70 when the load shifted, causing the semi to overturn.  MORE VIDEO: Sean Cudahy on the scene of spill

The driver was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

It’s unknown how long the southbound lanes of U.S. 68 will be blocked.
