DAYTON — Less than 48-hours after his Election Night victory, Ohio’s next Republican U.S. senator is thinking about the work he wants to do in Washington.

Preliminary results show JD Vance won 53% of the votes compared to his opponent, Democrat U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, who earned 47%.

News Center 7′s Molly Koweek sat down with Vance for his first TV interview since the win.

Vance talked about his top priorities in D.C. and some of the issues he wants to take on.

One of those issues is inflation, he said, by opening the country’s energy markets, getting back to drilling and refining and opening some of the pipelines.

Vance also said he is concerned about the southern border and the drugs he said are coming through.

He said he continues to be grateful for the opportunity to serve Ohioans.

“I’ve never run for office before, and so it’s pretty incredible to do it, to be able to achieve the victory, but now the hard part begins,” Vance told Koweek. “So I guess what I want your listeners to know is that I’m their senator, whether they voted for me or not, and hopefully I can do a good job for them.”

Right now, control for the Senate is still unclear as the nation waits for results from a few states.

News Center 7′s Molly Koweek will have more from Vance tonight at 11.
