Driver identified in deadly morning crash on I-675 in Fairborn

FAIRBORN — UPDATE @ 11:45 a.m: The driver who died in a crash Sunday morning on southbound Interstate 675 has been identified.

Gerrick T. Copeland, 25, of Dayton, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a release by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

According to state troopers, Copeland was driving a Nissan Sentra traveling north on I-675 when the vehicle lost control,  drove off the right side of the roadway, over-corrected, drove back onto the interstate and exited again on the left side of the roadway.

Copeland then drove across the median onto the southbound side of the interstate, struck a guardrail, went airborne and flipped.

The vehicle landed on its top in the left lane on I-675 and was struck by a Chrysler Pacifica that was traveling southbound near Ohio 235 around 6 a.m.

The SUV driver was not injured in the wreck.

Both drivers were the only occupants inside their vehicles.

The crash shut down southbound lanes on I-675 between Ohio 235 and Ohio 444 for several hours.

The cause of the crash and alcohol involvement remains under investigation.

INITIAL REPORT

At least one person has died in a crash that has southbound lanes on I-675 shutdown Sunday morning, officials confirm.

Initial reports indicate a two-vehicle crash, with one of the vehicles reportedly rolled on its top, occurred near Ohio 235 around 6 a.m.

At least one of the occupants inside a vehicle was reportedly unconscious when crews arrived on scene, according to emergency scanner traffic.

All southbound traffic on I-675 between Ohio 235 and Ohio 444 is being rerouted.
