Sewage line issue closes Carlisle High School

CARLISLE — UPDATE @ 1:30 p.m.: A sewage backup this morning affected every restroom in the Carlisle High School building, according to district officials.

Superintendent Larry Hook said he received a call from the custodial staff reporting “there was standing water everywhere” in the high school.

No problems were reported in the district’s other three buildings, he said.

He said the sewer lines to the high school were clogged and that pipes were rusted according to a camera plumbers used to check the pipe. However, Hook said the pipe had not collapsed. He said the pipes from the building extend from the academic wing or south end of the high school to the main sewer line.

Hook said he expects to get an “all-clear” call that the repairs are completed sometime after 1 p.m.

There are no classes on Friday due to a professional training day for teachers.

Carlisle High School was built in 1972 and is the newest building in the district.

On Tuesday, the Carlisle school district broke ground on a new $49 million PK-12 school building that is expected to open in the fall of 2020.
